On March 29, students participated in an experiential learning opportunity with Big Muddy Adventures, designed to strengthen leadership skills through hands-on, team-based challenges.

This outdoor leadership experience encouraged students to step outside of their comfort zones while developing critical skills like communication, collaboration, and adaptability. A key takeaway for many participants was the importance of teamwork—particularly learning how to cooperate effectively and match the pace of those around them in order to succeed as a group.

Students reflected on how aligning with one another, both physically and mentally, contributed to a stronger and more cohesive team dynamic. These moments of shared challenge and growth highlighted how leadership is not just about individual performance, but about supporting and moving forward together.

Experiential learning opportunities like this are a vital part of leadership development at WashU, providing students with real-world applications of leadership in action.
